the travelling engineer

In photography, wanderlust on December 20, 2006 by carinasuyin

We didn’t have a critter cam to attach onto Meng Teck (that would have been fun haha) as suggested by The Soothsayer, so here is a photo essay series on the travelling engineer’s antics in Thailand instead.

With his trusty camera which might be replaced with a new dSLR in the future. Not exactly a trigger-happy shutterbug, thinks before he shoots. *Middle left photo in collage above courtesy of Poh Wan

One of his favourite photography subject is kids. He’s a natural in getting them to smile and pose for his camera. The adorable kid above was so pleased with his photo he squealed and stomped his feet in excitement as his grandmother watched in amusement. Made me wish I carried a portable photo printer.

He’s also a big kid at times. *Middle photo in collage above courtesy of Poh Wan

He has an uncanny ability to fall asleep almost immediately anywhere and anytime. Best part is that you could ask him a question or two while he is half “fishing” and he’d answer you lucidly, go back to sleep and then awaken a while later without any recollection of the conversations he had during his nap. He needs two pillows to sleep peacefully but wakes up with none, ignores his own alarm and booms scarily in the dark “ONG SU YIN, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” when you turn off the freezing air-cond in the middle of the night so that you could switch the fan on instead.

It has been a long time since he last rode a bicycle and it shows. Muahahahah….

In true hao si dan duk-ness, he delights in taking his own self-portraits, much to Ah Tan’s bewilderment. Will probably make a fuss if you ask him to pose for a shot unless he’s super happy or in vain mode. Nevertheless, the occasional grab shot is worth attempting for those deep dimples and the mega-watt smile.

Then there are some things he does that you don’t bother finding out why. Hee…

I don’t think I have captured so many pics of my own self within just a few days’ time! Hahaa…but it’s nice to see myself from someone else’s perspective once in awhile 😉

Thank you so much for writing this and Merry Christmas!
