love seeks the good of the beloved

January 19, 2008

Ah Tan and Ah Chan’s simple church wedding was a celebration steeped in tradition, meaning, love and beauty – the splendid sunny morning, the lunch tables strewn with rose petals, the chinese character for love which was embroidered on the back of the priest’s chasuble; the guests who each had their own “how I knew the bride/groom/couple” stories; Ah Tan’s beautiful gown with the gorgeous train; Ah Chan’s contented grin which never once left his face; Isaac, the very-determined little ring bearer; Patricia, the precocious flower girl often lost in a world of her own; the quiet happiness emanating from Ah Tan’s mom…

Fr. Simon’s wedding sermon had me in awe, especially when he reminded everyone that love is a decision of the will. The wedding had also coincided with the first day of Triduum in Advent, adding significance to the beginning of a lifetime’s journey in love for the celebrated couple.

Tansterrrrrrr!! My partner in crime of nearly ten years, sister high witch of sampat-ism, fellow unlicensed pig farmer and irreplaceable bosom buddy of clandestine adventures… I’m missing you loads already! Take good care, have tonnes of fun, feed Ah Chan well and don’t OD on nachos and burritos, okie? I’ll see you soon in summer with enough curry-flavoured Maggi Mee to last you till Christmas!! Till then, we heart Skype!!

round the lil blue ball

Unlike birthday wishes, I’ve stopped making new year resolutions for as long as I can remember, simply because I’m not good at keeping them. I made just one new year’s resolution for 2008 – to play as hard as I work. “So how are you planning to do that?” Chammika had asked as we watched the fireworks in the distance from his kitchen window.

Well, I’ll start with lots of travel and hopefully, my very own dSLR soon! I reckon I’d be very broke by the end of the year but it’ll be a most awesome year to remember…

First quarter of 2008: Kunming, China; Taipei, Taiwan and Seoul, Korea
Second quarter of 2008: Hong Kong; Aalen, Germany; Mauritius
Third quarter of 2008: San Diego, USA
Last quarter of 2008: Auckland, New Zealand

age is just a gnome-ber

Jo loves gnomes, so Irene and I made some to add to the birthday girl’s collection. Whoever knew some paper clay, acrylic paint and high gloss lacquer could bring so much joy… Hail Jo-tler!

Things to do on a rainy weekend:

  • Drink a freezing glass of orange juice smoothie
  • See raindrops fall from beneath a transparent umbrella
  • Buy a (very lovely) trench coat
  • Linger in the bookstore
  • Cook a hot steaming pot of tofu and vegetable stew
  • Watch the road get showered with falling leaves
  • Catch a movie with a dear friend
  • Walk in the rain with your hair down
  • Eat a just-out-of-the-deep-fryer otak-otak karipap, slowly
  • Curl up in bed with a snug blanket and new books
  • Boil porridge with a sibling or two
  • Attempt to tidy up the bedroom for the 247th time
